Literature Text

The warm breeze drifted over your skin, sending shivers down your spin. Today was the Aptitude Test.  You had dreaded this day since your sixteenth birthday in (y/birth month). You wanted to stay in Abnegation, you didn't want to leave, yet you did. You didn't want to get a different Faction, sometimes you did to escape. Your older sister and brother, Tallia and Max, both got Abnegation, as your mother told you, stayed. But you didn't see them much because of the stupid rule, Faction before blood. Only on visiting days did you see them, or when you help the Factionless and they both are their, or during meetings. But your mother you don't want to leave, but your father was a different story.

He was good, but not great. He was friends with Marcus, and Marcus rubbed off of him. So he obused you and your mother. Marcus got caught, but he didn't. That is why your brother and sister stayed. He threatened them, but you weren't afraid of the threats, you wanted to leave. At the same time, you didn't. You wanted to protect your family, the family that wasn't evil. That wasn't Abnegation. But is in the Abnegation Faction.

"_____, sweetie?" Mother knocked on your door. "Time to get up. The test, remember?" Her voice was weak, and cracked. Like she was frigile glass, cracking.

"I know. . ."

She opened the door. She had new bruises on her arms, she tried to cover them with a shawl and long sleeves,  but showed  you silently to warn you. "You nervous?"

"No."

"Then what are you?"

"Ready."

"That's my girl." She looked behind her then back at you. "Your father doesn't want me telling you this. . .but. . .the test. Your father was Dauntless, I was Amity. He used his power over me to make me choose Abnegation with him. Don't. Don't choose this unless that is what you get on the test. Your brother and sister didn't. Tallia got Amity. Max got Erudite. This is your chance to escape, ____. Take this chance."

"Escape?"

"Yes."

_____________

You left a while before you were supposed to. You didn't want to see your father because that might lead him to your mother's secret talk with you. You drapped the cotton shawl over your shoulders and lefted.

You walked along the broken sidewalk to the school. Going to your classes then to take the test. All day you could barely focuse, thinking about your decision the whole day. When luch came around, you ate nothing and just picked at your chicken-pot pie. Not appealing at all-even on a normal basis. Too plain and bland, just another meal pulled out from the freezer and warmed up.

After lunch, the Abnegation helped clean the cafiteria and everyone sat with their Faction. The Dauntless laughted, the Erudite read and talk over books, the Amity sang, the Candor aruged over nonsense and you along with the other Abnegation students taking the test.

An Erudite stepped up to the front of the cafiteria, her blue uniform stating she was high ranking.

"Hello, my name is Jeanine Mattews, head of Erudite. . ." Then she began a long boring speach of the history of the Factions and founders.

I ingored her, like so many others. This was the boring part, this was the part were everyone grew anxious.

An hour later, they started calling people in, ten at a time, two from a  Faction a t a time to take the test.

"From  Erudite: Amy Windsnap. Gabriel Jordan. From Dauntless: Micheal McVINE. David Spects. From Amity: Bony Quinton. Maisy Johnson. From Candor: Thomas Gilbor. Ashley Amilee. And from Abnegation: Holly Phony. Kyle Toll."

They all walked threw a door to the testing rooms.

A half hour later, "From Erudite: Aamie Long. Sammy Yong. From Dauntless: Harry Shawn, William Thomas. Dawn Pattern. From Amity: Hermonie Pettit. Patrick Dawn. And from Abnegation: Alexander Walk. _________."

You slowly stood, scared to walk. Your father could beat you for this is you got a different Faction, but mother would be proud.

You fallowed anothers to the testing rooms. You walk with them in silents that made the school halls eerie. You came to six doors, each opened when you stood in front of them. You walked in anxiously and froze.

The room was small and the walls were platted with mirrors. A man in black stood at a computer with a syringe in hand.

You stared at your reflection, you haven't seen your reflection since mother cut your hair last month. You looked older, your (h/c) hair now (h/l) and pulled into the plan bun Abnegations wear. Your (e/c) eyes fearful, yet excited, anxious, yet nervous.

"You got a poblem with the room or what?" He said. He looked like he was in his late teens, with tattoos of flames, birds and lions. His hair was blue and clashed with his cryasl eyes.

"Oh, no. It's just. . .we don't believe in vanity."

"Of course. You are my first Abnegation so I better not expect too much. Now sit. You're wasting time."

You sat on the chair next to the Dauntless.

"I'm Mark. I will be giving your Aptitude Test. Don't be suprised if you get your own Faction and don't be scared if you don't." He hands you a class of serum.

"What's this for?"

"Drink up, Stiff."

You raise the glass to your lips, being causious.

"Oh, my God, hurry!"

You drank it. The cool liquid drained into your throat, causing you to gag. Your eyes got heavy, your limbs weak. Resting your head on the headrest, you closed your eyes.

____________

You were still in the room, but Mark and the machines were no where. As you stood up, you stared at your reflection. Walking around the room, hypnotized by the simulation.

The a voice called out, "Choose. . ."

You turned. You noticed two baskets that weren't there before. One held a knife, the other cheese.

"Choose. . ."

It was your voice.

"Why?"

"Choose, now. It will be too late."

"Must I? There has to be a reason why-"

"Choose!"

A growling noise yelped behind you, causing you to jump. A dog with matted black hair growled and hissed at you. Teeth bared, it circled you, ready to pounce. Glancing at the baskets, there was nothing there anymore.

It leapt. Feeling claws on your back, you shoved the dog off. You grabbed its snout, holding it shut. It bucked and clawed, kicking and squirming. Soon the beast calmed, slowly at first, then layed down.

"Puppy." A child, squealed. She ran at the dog.

You smiled the out of the corner of your eye, you saw the dog grow angry. It growled and the girl stopped, running away now. The dog ran after her, like a lion hunting its prey.

You rushed after them tackling the dog, but it vanished under you. Leaving a fur coat behind and the girl no where.

"What?"

You were on a bus platform. A Factionless man sat on a bench reading a paper. On the paper was a man, a man you recogised but couldn't recall their.

"You. . .do you know this man? Please. . .please. . .say you. . .please say you do. . ."

"Um. . ."

"Please. . .he beats me. . .help me. . .you can!"

"My father beats me. . .I know how it goes. . .escape."

"Tell me more! Help me!" He grabbed your shawl and shook you. "Tell me!!!"

Your vision went black, the man vanished, the simulastion was over. . .
This is Chapter 1, I was working on a short story, then it seemed like a continuing story so I wrote this. Enjoy!
